Strike a match and watch the burst of energy from the spark.

And then watch the flame licking at the fuel of the matchstick – leaving no fuel left unquenched.

People can be so moved by this that they can become consumed by the fire in their soul and desire to see it again and again. Many of these people become very sick and desirous to see the power of the huge flames destroy life and property.

Their “innocent” affliction of worship of the tiny flame becomes so ravenous they go to great lengths to see its limits broadened without concern for the outcome.

Friends, this is not so with God. Jesus wants our flame to consume us, yes. He wants the initial spark to consume all the fuel (our natural desires that drive our behavior).

This leaves no room for error and a drive to stay in the will of God.

But – the flame is not meant to consume the viewer into a roller coaster of addiction.

Instead, it is designed to push and catapult the OUTSIDER or BYSTANDER into an indescribably unquenchable desire to have the same experience.

Friends, our fire is supposed to attract those who don’t have it and don’t understand it, but want to see it do its wonders.

And before you know it, the outsider takes a chance and gets the same spark!

And that spark is FAITH!

This phenomenon, this MIRACLE called faith is what starts every single revival.

It either starts the revival of the individual.

Or it starts the revival of a community, city or nation.

Want proof? LOOK AT BABYLON.

The familiar story talks about Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. When faced with worshiping King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image, they refused.

Their faith burned so white hot they decided they would rather be baked into dust in a fiery furnace than worship an idol.

Their words to the king:

Daniel 3:17-18 – “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.”

“But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image thou has set up.”

When was the last time we stood up for the all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present God of the universe?

This is where power resides.

S0… off to the furnace they went.

But their own fire of FAITH was much more powerful than any flaming Dutch oven!

And just like the flaming match, it got the king’s attention:

Daniel 3:26 – “Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spake and said, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, ye servants of the most-high God, come forth and come hither.”

He immediately recognized God!

And it gets better!

The king was so moved by the FAITH that fuels miracles he made God the God of the land by decree!

So, no matter the heart condition of the Babylonians – the people of God – the Jews, were revived! They were rejuvenated, no doubt, to worship the true God.

It is this FAITH we need today.

Faith to believe the impossible.
