John the Baptist is one of my favorite saints in the bible because he’s so bold and on fire for the kingdom. The brother lives in the desert. He wears a camel hair outfit. He eats only locusts and honey! – All of that, because he wants to live a pure life for God, to hear the Lord and be heard. Talk about boldness.

When he’s confronted at the Jordan river by people asking “who are you?” He says,

John 1:23

“I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness…”

He was so certain about his calling. He knew who he was and he did not divert from it. He lived intimately with the Holy Spirit daily from birth. He was anointed to prepare the way for Jesus. He was a way maker, or a bridge builder

I want you to know you have the same calling. You are the voice. You have the Lord inside of you. If you know Jesus, he wants you to express his love everywhere and to everyone.

There’s this show on NBC called “The Voice.” And the imagery is incredible. There’s a contestant singing in what’s called a “blind audition.” And four judges have their backs turned to the contestant. As the singer presents their message, the judges decide if they like what they hear. If they do, they push a button and turn around. There’s a light that comes on that says “I Want You.”

What a great illustration of the Lord crying out for us. You know, when we’re not intimately involved with God, we’re basically blind. We can’t see where we’re going. We don’t know who we are.

But that doesn’t stop God from sending His message of Jesus and forgiveness. Just like John the Baptist was sent preaching repentance, we’re sent as messengers to the blind. It’s up to them to hear us. But we have to first be willing to be the voice.

So the judges on The Voice TV show are like the people who are trying to find their way, but basically have their backs turned to God.

At some point, the Lord hopes your message of love, or your gesture of compassion, or a word of encouragement, or a gift, or the sweet word of God will cause them to push some invisible button and turn around.

It’s like a light switch. It’s the moment when a person’s heart hears the word of God and they’re pricked. They realize life should mean much more and they’ve been living a dark and/or empty existence and there’s more to life. They turn on the switch that says “my heart’s available to change. I want to change.” And the light of Christ is then turned on in their heart.

They turn around, just like those judges. And they say “I want you!” to Jesus. And just like the contestants’ parents are clapping and crying and screaming off-stage, the angels in heaven – even our own brothers and sisters in Christ rejoice! It’s a party because a soul has come home!

I pray this will encourage you to sow seeds of love and truth into the hearts of those around you!

God bless you.
