LIMITS ON A LIMITLESS GOD

Why don’t we see more miracles?

I want to cry.

All the cancer.
All the issues with our children.
All the hate.
All the racism.
All the discrimination.
All the fear.
All the gossip.
All the anger.
All the unforgiveness.
All the violence.
All the divorce.

All the evil.

All in the church.

Why do we have these problems?

Is God’s are too short that He can’t reach us? That He can’t save us!?

NO. NO. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

The problem is our faith.

Our lack of faith.

We pray.

But for how long?

We believe the promises of the bible.

But for how long?

Do we only believe when things are going well?

Do we only believe when we see progress?

Do we only believe in Sunday morning?

What about the other six days of the week?

We believe on Christmas and Easter.

What about the other 363 days of the year?

How do you limit a limitless God?

You fail to recognize His all-consuming power.

And that power is available to YOU.

The scripture says Jesus could NOT WORK MIGHTY MIRACLES only on one place.

His hometown.

Everywhere else he healed people.
He cast out demons.
He raised people from the dead.

But in his hometown he was restricted.

Why?

Because of their unbelief.

They were too familiar with Jesus.

They’d spent so much time with him they couldn’t see him for who he really was.

They were laws to him being around.

And he had been around for so long and they never saw him work miracles before.

I can hear them now saying:

“So why would he start doing miraculous things now?”

“Why should we believe the Jesus we’ve heard about all these years can do the impossible?”

“He had never done miracles before.”

“Certainly what we’ve heard about him isn’t really true.”

“We know the real Jesus.”

“A good man. But not a miracle worker.”

“These are fables. They’re myths. They’re great stories. But we know Jesus. He can’t really do that stuff.”

And it’s not just them who said that.

We say that TODAY.

Church folk.

We say we believe.

But do we really?

Do we stick our necks out to proclaim someone’s healing? Do we pray without quitting?

Jesus could not do mighty works only among people who were familiar with him before he started doing mighty works.

Let not that be said about us.

We believe Lord.

We trust you Lord.

We need you Lord.

We cry out to you Lord.

We thirst for you Lord.

Come Lord.

Save us!!!

Heal us!

Deliver us!

Restore us!

The church of Jesus Christ believes in Jesus Christ.

The bride of Christ cries, “Come!”

The bride of Christ desires the presence of Christ.

If you can’t believe your spouse, nothing they claim they can do will resonate with you.

Hey make promises to help you heal from the past.

But you can’t believe it.

They make promises to change things.

But you want proof.

They say they’ll never let it happen again.

But you think that’s just who they are.

You won’t give them a chance.

Often this lack of faith is connected to hurt and disappointment.

Don’t let your past disappointments cause you to give up on Jesus.

He can do anything!

He will do what he says he will do.

Just believe.

4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 

5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. 

6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

SEEK TO SEE

There are two types of believers.

Christians who see Jesus.

And Christians who do not see Jesus.

The disciples at the empty tomb didn’t see Jesus. So they walked away.

The scripture says hey didn’t UNDERSTAND the word of God that declared Jesus is ALIVE!!!!

Mary Magdalene didn’t see Jesus either.

But she was determined to see him!!!

She didn’t leave that tomb.

She wanted to know where he was.

This was the same Mary Magdalene who some say poured precious ointment on Jesus as an act of adoration and love.

She craved his presence.

This is the same Mary some say sat at the feet of Jesus while her sister Martha was busy doing chores.

She loved the presence of Jesus.

And at this tomb she refused to believe he was gone forever.

When Jesus arrived she didn’t recognize him.

He was new.

He was all Spirit.

Often we don’t recognize Jesus in our midst.

We have preconceived notions about how and when and why the Spirit of God will show up.

But when Jesus said her name, “Mary” she recognized his voice!!!

She turned around and became the first person to witness the risen Lord.

It was her heart to see him that brought him to her.

It was her determination to find him that brought him to her.

So here’s what we can learn.

It is not our holiness or our money or our name or our position that bring the presence of God.

Mary was not an apostle.

She was not the mother of Jesus.

She was not a church leader.

She was not a pastor.

She was a woman who adored Jesus.

He had set her free from seven demons.

He had taught her and taken notice of her despite her reputation as a prostitute.

He cleaned her up and set her free from sin.

And she couldn’t get enough.

She couldn’t leave his side.

She was grateful and she was authentically repentant.

She knew her old way of life led to nothing but pain and disappointment.

But Jesus brought her joy and peace and true friendship.

We must seek the presence of Jesus.

We must turn to him and remind ourselves of what he’s set us free from.

We must appreciate out depravity and our helplessness without him.

What has he done for you?

Do you remember?

What was life like without him?

Is there even a difference?

If so, then your heart toward him.

Mary just had a heart to be with Jesus.

Seek him like that and he will speak to you.

He will announce his presence.

While others might not see him, you will.

And he will fill your life with joy.

Mary was ecstatic. She wanted to touch him.

She wanted to feel him to confirm she wasn’t being tricked.

Jesus will give you that same excitement.

He wants to spend time with you.

Just don’t walk away.

Stay and wait for him.

Sit at his feet like Mary Magdalene.

Read his word.

Pray.

Ask questions.

Listen for the answers.

Write them down.

Ask for help.

Ask for the baptism of the Holy Spirit to empower you to see him and walk with him.

Your heart to adore him and spend time with him will bring him to you.

And you will witness the risen Lord for yourself.

10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre

GLORIOUS SATISFACTION

What a tender thought.

That all Jesus wants to do is satisfy us.

He wants to satisfy the deep and unquenchable desires of our hearts.

He comes for the disciples.

He follows them to their point of disappointment and confusion.

What are we to do now? They ask…

They go fishing.

They don’t know they were created for a much greater fishing expedition.

They can’t see the glory that awaits them.

But Jesus can.

He knows why they were created.

Only he knows how to shepherd them toward the satisfaction that will calm and soothe their restless souls.

We are all like wild horses.

Full of power that is initially unbridled.

But Jesus comes to us in our wild nature and stubbornness and confusion to lead us to our life’s calling and greatest desires.

He weaves our dreams into our reality.

It is only by his grace and mercy and his voice and his leading that we find peace.

No purpose. No peace.

Jesus asks one question that shows his desire to bless us.

He calls them “children” when he asks, do you have anything to eat?

Of course he knows the answer.

They are empty and void of success.

They are hungry to feed their bodies, but more so to feed their souls.

We can not adequately interpret our hearts’ desires.

We think we can.

But scripture says our hearts are deceitful.

We need Jesus to guide us to the undiscovered yearnings and groanings of our innermost being.

He knows us and he grows us.

He was hurting for them.

He wanted them to be satisfied and it hurt him to see hem floundering and without success, searching for something that was right in front of them, something they couldn’t see because they were focused in their pain and focused on what they just lost.

They thought God had forsaken them and left them.

We know he will never leave us or forsake us!!!!

Jesus shows them how to feed their bodies by giving them the strategy to pull in the food they hungered for.

But he brought far more than they could have caught on their own.

He wants to bless us to overflow!!!

And if we listen for him, he will satisfy us and more than enough!!!

And notice that when they caught that abundant catch, he already had food waiting for them.

He had fish and bread.

He had the meal they wanted already prepared.

They were flailing and failing while all they had to do was look for Jesus.

The meal was waiting for them.

The fish had already been caught and cooked.

They didn’t have to toil for it.

It was ready to eat!

But they couldn’t see it before. They were focused on their inability more than the Lord’s availability.

He’s always available to feed us and satisfy us to the utmost!!!

After he showed them the meal that awaited them, he asked them to bring what they caught to the table.

Jesus not only wants to feed us, he wants to bring us along with him as he completes his purposes.

This is how he shows us our calling.

As we allow him to feed us and he walks with us and satisfies us, he empowers us by the Holy Spirit to add to his purpose and plan and do what only we can do together.

He reveals that through him and relationship with him we can bring in a bountiful harvest of souls and abundance in every area of our lives.

He wants to partner with us.

It’s not just about him doing all the work.

He wants us to do some of the heavy lifting and share in the bounty.

We are called to save souls and enjoy the fellowship among the new believers with Jesus.

The family grows as we grow with Jesus.

This is why Jesus asks Peter “Do you love me?” … “Then feed my sheep.”

If we love Jesus we will allow him to use us to bring more people to love Jesus.

He will do most of the work.

But we are called as his ambassadors to reconcile unbelievers to Christ by his power.

And we are to look to him for satisfaction the whole while!

Have no fear.

Jesus is making your meals right now.

He will sustain you.

He will sit and spend time with you.

He enjoys your company.

He enjoys feeding you to empower you and showing you your heart’s untold desires.

He enjoys blessing you to be a blessing to others.

He enjoys loving you to love others.

He enjoys giving you life to give life to others.

He is a God of relationship.

Sit at the table and eat.

And watch him show you how to bring your own abundance of fruit to the table.

And abundant inflow of more souls to love and spend time with Jesus.

Just don’t let disappointment and doubt stand in the way of you recognizing Jesus’ love and his presence.

Call on him.

Look for him.

You will find him.

And you will find rest for your restless soul.

6 And he said unto them, “Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find.” They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

THE TIME IS NOW!

1.12.15

THE SET TIME

II Corinthians 6:2 NKJV

“For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

There are certain seasons, certain times that the Lord has
declared for a certain work.

And He always chooses to work grace in seasons of grace

When He determines to save us, He saves us

But it is at a set time.

This verse from 2 Corinthians 6 quotes a verse in Isaiah 49.

In that verse, the word “acceptable” in the original Hebrew means delight, goodwill,
favor, kindness, willfulness, grace.

A voluntary, arbitrary decision.

So we can look at this verse as saying, “Behold, now is the time of my voluntary decision to act by my choice in delight, goodwill,
favor, kindness and grace – arbitrarily. It’s simply my decision to do it now.”

Wow!

God is always good.
But apparently there are seasons that His goodness truly outdoes itself!

Perhaps this requires certain prescribed actions by the recipient, like humility or repentance.

Maybe it’s just a prescribed date.

It looks like neither is necessary.

It’s just a time He decides for no assistant reason to bless us!
No matter what, when the ingredients are there God has made up His mind to act.

This should give us new perspective and appreciation for the goodness of God for two reasons:

1. He loves us so much that He has declared predetermined zones of time when He will say enough is enough and He will step in to save us despite what we’ve done to get ourselves out of line.
2. He will enact grace. It’s just a matter of time. He is gracious. Period.

What this means for us is that we should be humbled by the fact that our very existence is so full of soon and destitution that it requires this safety net.

Consider this.

Where would we be without His safety net!?
We’d be certainly lost.

We must be careful not to “give up” on someone we know is our of the loop. someone who currently does not stand among believers and behave with righteousness and understanding. We must remember there is a set time for their freedom just as much as there was a set time for us!
We are warned by Paul not to accept this grace in vain.

He’s exorting us to appreciate the
fact that we don’t deserve these grace time zones and God could have chosen to let them pass without pulling us out of the fire.

II Corinthians 6:1 NKJV

“We then, as  workers together with  Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain.”

So Paul says we should be careful not to find ourselves engaged in unrighteousness as if we have no appreciation for
God’s decision – the fact that He CHOSE to save us.

It’s like bailing someone out of jail and they go right back to the save behavior.

You might as well have let them stay on jail!

There hasn’t been a renewing of the mind. The hasn’t been a change in posture toward consequences.

There hasn’t been an opening of
the eyes about the goodness of the giver.

Do you appreciate God’s grace?

Then accept it and use it as motivation to get even closer to the giver!

THE TIME IS NOW!!

Use the gift of grace as a chance to grow into someone who follows grace instead of squanders it.
The fact is time is always ticking. And it’s always running out.

God didn’t let the clock run out on your salvation.

So don’t let the clock run out on your discipleship.

You don’t have long to live the abundant life. Get the most out of grace and serve the One who is gracious.

If you have not accepted His grace and put your faith on Jesus
Christ, know this – Jesus died as a perfect sinless sacrifice so he could VOLUNTARILY accepted the punishment for your sins.

Sin must be punished.

That is what makes God a just God.

But at a SET TIME God allowed Jesus to come down here from heaven to be born of a virgin, relinquishing his place on heaven momentarily so he could die for you.
That’s grace!

But because he never sinned, a just God raised Jesus from the dead!

He’s alive and wants to live inside of you.

Because of Jesus, everyday is a day of salvation!

And you can spend eternity with him.
Simply talk to him and say:

“Lord I’m a sinner and I need your grace. I ask your forgiveness. And I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Come into my heart and change me from the inside out. Lead me into your peace. In Jesus name, amen!”

It’s that simple.

Now find a good church and live for the giver. Don’t accept His have in vain, only to live the same life.

YOU ARE PERFECT AND LOVABLE – EVEN TO A PERFECT GOD

I have good news!

You were never meant to be perfect!

You are perfect justice way you are!

That is not to say we can live how we want and please God.

The bible is clear.

We can only please God if we have faith.

But here’s where His love comes in!

Think about a newborn baby.

When it shows up we are enamored. We can’t help but adore the perfectly sweet and cute and delightful “Mini-Me.”

It’s the same way with God. He made you. So He loves YOU!

And He only makes perfect stuff.

Here’s where our idea of perfect needs to change.

We are perfect because God wanted us to have flaws and still find love.

He could only prove He is love through giving His love to the seemingly unloveable.

We are PERFECT for His plan of revealing His true nature as a LOVING FATHER.

We were created to fall.

We were created to cry out.

And we were created to find God like no other creature in history.

The Angels who fell with satan didn’t have the chance of redemption.

But they are part of God’s perfect plan of redemption.

They tempt us to sin and try to cause us to fall away from God.

But He still reaches out with grace to love us anyway when we put our faith in Him as our sole source of salvation.

You can only experience true love through forgiveness.

Because if someone only loves you because of what you do for them – they’ll soon learn you make mistakes to and they’ll be gone.

Thank God He’s not like that!

He calls you flawless in scripture. He sees Himself as your spouse.

He’s dedicated to loving you perfectly.

And how else could He express that perfect love except when you make mistakes?

Be encouraged brother and sister.

You are loved.

And you are adored by the God of perfection.

He’s never made a mistake – especially when He made YOU.

BEHOLD!

JOHN 19:5 KJV
“Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!”

Pontius Pilate does a remarkable job of showing us our tendencies.

Jesus was 100% God and 100% man.

He was clear when he said “I and my father are one.” (John 10:30)

“If you have seen me, you have seen the father.” (John 14:9)

What do you see?

Do you see Jesus as a good man?

A prophet?

A teacher?

Or do you see him as “God with us?” (Isaiah 7:14)

Pilate says, “Behold the man!” in John 19:5.

And that was his problem. That was Israel’s problem.

That’s our problem if we don’t allow ourselves to see Christ as a gift from God for our salvation.

And also God with us.

Allow Jesus into your heart ad God.

See the cross as more than a good deed.

See the cross as God taking YOUR sin punishment upon himself. Each of us put God on the cross. We didn’t know God and we sinned.

But He loves is so much He sent His only son from heaven to die for us.

It is by his suffering we ar healed. (Isaiah 53)

Pray this prayer with me:

“Lord you are my friend you’re my God. Thank you for Jesus Christ. Lord, I ask that you come into my heart, invade my life and overwhelm me. Help me to understand truly who you are. And help me to give you my life all of it! In the name of Jesus, Amen.”

HERE’S PROOF

If you’ve ever wondered how to get the attention of an unbeliever, it’s all about providing proof.

And that proof is in your boldness:

Acts 4:13 KJV

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Don’t hold back.

Speak life and encouragement in the name of Jesus. Don’t hide who you serve. Don’t hide who is your source. Don’t hide who it is who wants to lavish their love on every single son and daughter.

Lord Jesus I pray you give us all the boldness to preach the gospel by how we live and what we say. Give us precious discernment and grace to release bold and prophetic words of encouragement to the lost. We love you. And we know you leave us alone. In Jesus’ name we pray AMEN.

HOW MANY GODS ARE THERE?

I recently went out of town to visit family.

And it was a normal day. I was going back and forth between our hotel and family, church, etc.

Until I noticed a man who was walking quite strenuously with a cane.

It was obvious his back was out of alignment.

So, I wrestled with whether or not I should pray for him. The questions running through my mind were quite familiar:

“I mean, would God heal him?”

“Do I have time?”

“He’s a stranger. Will he even talk to me?”

After going through this for several minutes, I surrendered to the compassion of the Holy Spirit and went back downstairs to the lobby.

His name was Kamal.

He worked at the hotel.

When I asked him if I could pray for him, he was surprised and skeptical, but agreed.

He was uncomfortable with me touching him, so I just prayed for the healing.

And then it happened.

God whispered.

“Ask him if anyone has told him about Jesus.”

And so I did.

Come to find out, Kamal had been to church, to a mosque, the Hindu temple, etc.

He had been struggling with the fact he has a disability. And he was searching for God.

Of course, I didnt know this ahead of time.

That’s why it’s a divine appointment.

He was seeking God. And here I was to tell him about God!

“Seek and ye shall find…” Right?

Kamal told me he describes himself as “spiritual.”

He acknowledged there is “a God” but he thinks God “has too many things on his plate” to care about his suffering.

See why we need to sow love into the hearts of people?

I told Kamal God loves him. And the one true God sent Jesus to take away our sins.

I shared with him a scripture the Lord sent to my heart when I was talking with Kamal.

(I always pray as I witness for the Lord to send a word).

John 10:15-16 KJV

“As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”

I stressed to Kamal there is only one sheepfold and only one shepherd.

Jesus was and is our protecter and redeemer.

There is only one Savior.

There is only one family of God.

Kamal told me he heard of Jesus. He said he picks up the bible just as he reads other texts from other traditions.

He told me he had been to a church and a preacher laid hands on him.

But I told him the preacher can’t save him. Only Jesus can!

I shared my testimony and told Kamal how to pray for Jesus to come into his heart.

He wasn’t ready.

But I’ve been praying he will.

Through this story I want to encourage you to give in to the compassion of the Holy Spirit.

Truth be told, you won’t always “feel like it.”

But if you surrender and say “Send me Lord,” the Spirit will give you what you need.

THE CHOICE IS YOURS

If you’ve ever struggled with the thought you can achieve great things in the name of Jesus, or you’ve been challenged by the mere thought of performing the same miracles Jesus did, I want to encourage you.

You have been called to do the impossible for God.

The choice is yours.

Consider what happened in the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus was at his limit.

Mark 14:34-36 KJV

“And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.”

His human nature wanted to save itself.

His God-like nature wanted to save YOU.

What if?

What if Jesus gave in to his human nature?

Thank the Lord we don’t have to ponder for long the utter devastation that would’ve resulted from a Paradise Lost moment.

But what if?

The point I’m making is this: JESUS HAD A CHOICE!

This will certainly cause some confusion because I believe we don’t give it a second thought that Jesus would give up everything to save us.

But listen to the words he spoke:

Mark 14:34-35 KJV

“And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.”

And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.”

It is evident in the scriptures that Jesus was certain to come and was destined to take on the sins of the world for our salvation.

It was prophesied. So it had to happen, right?

Yes.

But we cannot pass over the struggle that Jesus engaged in because it is so apparent he was being tempted beyond his human ability to withstand.

He had to confess his weakness and surrender to the loving Father who wrote out his destiny centuries prior.

Do you believe God’s prophecy about YOU?

John 14:12 KJV

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

We are called to perform miracles – healing people, casting out demons,  speaking in unknown tongues – all for the purpose of bringing people to their Father’s house.

But we have a decision to make.

I can allow my human nature to keep me thinking about ME.

OR…

I can confess my weaknesses to the Father when I’m tempted to ignore my calling,  even for a moment.

And He will certainly provide the strength and boldness and the Holy Spirit to fulfill His purpose for my life!

It’s time we focused on getting to GREATER!

RECIPE FOR A MIRACLE!

Matthew 14:28-31

^{28 “}And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
²⁹ And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
³⁰ But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
³¹ And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”

 

Oh how Peter is so much like us!

Here he is in the midst of the presence of God and he struggled with the thought of doing the impossible.

Are you praying for a miracle?

Are you hoping for salvation for anyone, even yourself?

Can you see yourself performing the miracles of Jesus to bring people into his bosom by faith in the miracle?

Does it ever bother you that you’ve never performed a miracle?

Well, here’s some good news.  You are a miracle worker!

You can cast out demons. You can receive a prophetic word from God and present it to someone at the perfect time.

You can heal the sick.

You can overcome any obstacle the enemy puts in your path.

And here is the recipe!

First, let me say that Jesus told the disciples something extremely important: DO NOT BE AFRAID (Matthew 14:27)

Don’t fear the impossible. It’s God doing all the work anyway.

All he needs is our RISK.

Peter heard the voice of the Lord standing on the water in the midst of a storm.

He believed Jesus was who he said he was.

Peter received the word of the Lord to NOT BE AFRAID and that emboldened him to “step out” of his “reality” and into God’s reality, where nothing is impossible.

And here’s what Peter did that we all can do:

• He asked Jesus if it was his will (“bid me come unto thee on the water” vs. 28)
• Upon hearing God’s “YES,” Peter “stepped out on faith.” (vs. 29)

It’s that simple!

He asked for confirmation.

To paraphrase, Peter basically said, “Jesus I feel in my heart that I can walk on that water too. Can I come out there?”

When Jesus said “Come” Peter didn’t hesitate.

Often, we’ll hear the Holy Spirit tell us to do something. Here are a few examples:

• Tell someone about Jesus
• Give your testimony
• Ask someone a specific, perhaps personal question
• Release a prophetic word
• Give someone a scripture
• Send someone an email
• Call to check on someone
• Ask someone if they know Jesus
• Give someone a gift
• Give our life to Christ with true surrender

Many times we’ll feel uncomfortable doing these things spontaneously. We might feel they’re weird or we don’t have “that kind of relationship” with the person.

But God does!

We can’t be afraid. Hear the Holy Spirit.

DO NOT BE AFRAID.

Notice what happened when Peter got scared in Matthew 14:30!

He began to sink.

We have to trust God. If He’s telling us to do something in our heart of hearts, it’s best that we “JUST DO IT.”

The most encouraging part about Peter’s bout with fear is what Jesus did next:

 

Matthew 14:31
³¹ And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him…
